From Survival to Self-Made: Two Women, One Shared Dream

There’s a moment after graduation when a dream stops being a dream and starts being a plan. For two remarkable women from our community, that moment has arrived — and they’re stepping into it together, as business owners.

A Dream They Were Afraid to Trust

Both women came from places of real vulnerability — circumstances that, for a long time, made the idea of a different life feel out of reach. There was a season when they feared waking up from this dream, half-convinced that a future like this simply wasn’t meant for them.

That fear is a familiar one in communities like Mathare, where survival often takes priority over possibility, and where believing in a better tomorrow can feel like a risk in itself.

Reawakening Hope

Everything began to shift through the support of the Einstein Grace Foundation, whose investment made this opportunity real, and the Elena Vocational Training Centre, which gave these women the skills — and just as importantly, the belief — to imagine themselves differently.

Training is never just about technique. It’s about a woman learning, often for the first time, that her hands and her mind can build something that belongs entirely to her.

Living the Dream, Together

Today, both women are business owners. The dream they once feared trusting is now the life they’re building daily, one client, one order, one decision at a time.

What makes their story even more powerful is that they’re not walking this road alone. The two have committed to supporting one another as they grow their ventures — sharing knowledge, encouragement, and accountability as they strengthen this movement step by step.

It’s a quiet but powerful reminder: empowerment multiplies when it’s shared.
